I have the honour to submit for Your Grace's information a short report on the typhoon which passed over this Colony on the 18th August, 1923.

I regret the delay in forwarding this report which has been due to considerable difficulties in obtaining comprehensive information from various sources.

Considering the severity of the storm, the worst (meteorologically), that has ever been recorded, the damage done and the loss of life watcomparatively light.

The heavy rain-fall immediately after the typhoon and also on the 28th, 29th, and 30th of August added considerably to the damage done to property. With roofs stripped in many places the rain had full access to the interiore of buildings while banks, possibly loosened by the swaying of trees, were further weakened by the deluge of

rain and landslides ensued,
